Point & Shoot Panic

After the untimely death of my last camera, it refused to take a photo of a hill in Ballachulish then gave up completely, I have been searching for a replacement model. I am now lost in a mind-boggling maze of megapixies (as they are known in my house), optical zooms, digital zooms, LCD screens, resolutions, exposures, shutter speeds and white balances and I am still no closer to deciding which camera to go for.

I have a maximum of £150, want at least 7m megapixies, a big screen and wee features like colour swap and colour accent would come in handy for taking nice dance shots.

Suggestions on a postcard or in a comment please.

I've got an Exilim (Casio) and it takes really good pics. It allows you to change the resolution easily so that you know what size the picture would be if you were to print it at it's full size eg 4'*6' or A2 etc. That means that you don't have to worry about the megapixels which really means hee haw. At top size it's using 5megapics if you are interested. The newer ones reach 10.1megapics.

Zoom is important. Optical is the proper zoom, digital is the shit computerized zoom that screws up the resolution and takes crap pics so if it only comes with digital zoom then forget it.

Most take video clips and stuff like that but give them a test to check the quality. On a 1GB memory card I can film almost an hour of video but the quality isn't that good.

The casio ones all come with about 20 presets depending on the lighting eg sunsets, firework, portraits etc. which are useful to check that your camera has a good variety of these.

Most come with some computer software that you can use to enhance your pictures with. Also photoshop does a better job than any stuff that comes with your average camera.

Try these:

I should point out that the site that the pentax is on have goos clearance deals. The pentax normally costs £220.

Good luck.
